Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 (Review)
February 1, 2011 at 9:00 PM

I was a huge, huge fan of the first Bionic Commando Rearmed - to me, it was a perfect HD update to a beloved NES classic, with slick visuals, a kickin' soundtrack and intentionally cheesy, over the top dialog. The new coat of paint was all well and good, but the real draw was the multipurpose bionic arm, and how every single aspect of the game was built around this one ability.

Rearmed 2... doesn't quite pull it all together like that.

Breach (Review)
February 1, 2011 at 7:03 PM

It would be easy – and also very wrong – to immediately dismiss Breach out of hand as another generic online shooter. Looks can be deceiving; yes, it borrows generously from the best games of the genre, but Breach’s twists on the oh-so-commonplace FPS model will give many a Modern Warfare-weary virtual soldier an addictive new way to create online mayhem...

iPhone/iPad review of the day: Aqua Moto Racing 2 – the best portable Wave Race clone you can buy (Aqua Moto Racing 2)
February 1, 2011 at 7:03 PM

The biggest crime of this generation of gaming is that there hasn’t been a new Wave Race. Seriously Nintendo, where is it? Thankfully you can still get a does of jet skiing action in mobile form thanks to Aqua Moto Racing 2...

February 1, 2011 at 4:59 PM

Perhaps Sony's a bit tired of all the free publicity Microsoft is getting with Kinect hacks, because it appears the company is looking into officially supporting Move on PC...

Ringo Starr trademarks his name as a game title (PC)
February 1, 2011 at 4:59 PM

There has just been an application down at the ol' trademark office to secure the rights to the name "Ringo" in association with 'video and computer games.' Any idea who might have applied for that? Well, aside from the fact that we just told you in the headline of this article, it's pretty obvious only one man has the right to trademark Ringo - former Beatles great Ringo Starr...

The games of February 2011 (Xbox 360)
February 1, 2011 at 4:59 PM

As the trickle of medium-profile games held over from last year continues, some of the biggest releases of 2011 are gearing up for launch this month – among them heavyweights Bulletstorm and Killzone 3. Those aside, February is looking relatively light on big releases, although we can still expect plenty of notable ones, many of which exist online or as DLC for last year’s big titles. Here’s what we can look forward to in the next 28 days…

Top Spin 4 preview – a fighting game that thinks it's a tennis match (Top Spin 4)
January 31, 2011 at 9:00 PM

While most tennis games are content to be arcadey and accessible, the Top Spin series has always gone deeper and more sim-like – for better or worse. The “worse” was arguably Top Spin 3, whose controls were so “realistically” complex that only die-hards could survive on the court. The “better” looks to be Top Spin 4. The entire play interface has been overhauled, returning it to the simple one-button-press gameplay of its contemporaries. Don’t think this a step backward, though: the goal this time around was to make something of a fighting game masquerading as a tennis sim...

Copies of BlazBlue: Continuum Shift are being pulled off of store shelves in the United Arab Emirates. The fighting game, developed by Arc System Works and published in the UAE by Zen United, has been officially banned by the Dubai Ministry of Economy’s National Media Council.

Fight Night Champion hands-on: exciting, savage... and slightly dumbed down (Fight Night Champion)
January 31, 2011 at 9:00 PM

We won’t lie. We’re really conflicted when it comes to Fight Night Champion. On one blood-stained glove, it’s arguably the most surprising and thrilling game in the series. And on the other… well, lets just say the boxing is currently more ‘Hulk smash!’ than sweet science. Based on our hands-on with the game at a recent EA event, it’s definitely got all the hallmarks of a champ… just with a bit of chump snuck in there, too.

New study suggests gaming promotes father-daughter bonding (PlayStation 3)
January 31, 2011 at 9:00 PM

Researchers at the Utah-based Brigham Young University's School of Family Life recently studied a group of 287 families to measure children's behavior, attitude, mental health and overall familial bonds after engaging in co-play game sessions with their parents. After tallying their responses, researchers found that the daughters had made noticeable, positive gains in each category while the boys remained relatively unchanged...

Sega Rally Online Arcade announced... but isn't it just Revo all over again? (Sega Rally Online Arcade)
January 31, 2011 at 9:00 PM

A new Sega Rally game is headed for PSN and Xbox Live Arcade later this year, cherry picking the best cars and features from the arcade version of Sega Rally 3 and the console version of Sega Rally Revo. Thing is, the arcade-only Sega Rally 3 is little more than an enhanced version of the console game that came out in 2007, which is already available as a digital download. So what gives?

Game of the month, January 2011: Mass Effect 2 (Mass Effect 2)
January 31, 2011 at 9:00 PM

Even though it was first released in January 2010, BioWare's PS3 port of Mass Effect 2 narrowly beat out all other contenders to take home our very first "Game of the Month" award.  The fact it came to Sony's console a full year after 360 and PC doesn't diminish its ambitious scale, gripping plot and aggressive gunplay in the least, and we'd recommend it over any other new game this month - assuming, yeah, you haven't already finished it like three or four times.

Scarlett Johansson wanted for Uncharted movie (Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception)
January 31, 2011 at 9:00 PM

Above: Scarlett Johanson (Iron Man 2) could join Mark Wahlberg in the upcoming Uncharted movie

If director David O. Russell has his way, Scarlett Johansson will join Mark Wahlberg on screen in the upcoming film adaptation of the Uncharted game series. Speaking to Empire, Russell reiterated that he’s still keen on the idea of casting Robert De Niro as Nathan Drake’s father, adding that he would ‘love’ Scarlett Johansson or possibly Amy Adams to play the role of Drake’s love interest, Elena…

Modern Combat: Domination (Review)
January 31, 2011 at 9:00 PM

Modern Combat: Domination’s actual value is somewhat difficult to quantify. The game is basically a budget Call of Duty clone and considering that the gaming market is already drowning in first-person shooters, it really begs the question: why the hell do we need another Call of Duty clone? While MCD sells at an incredibly affordable $7.99 (seriously, you can find food items at your local Taco Bell that are more expensive than this game), the title is simply a hodgepodge of game designs from other, better shooters...

January 31, 2011 at 9:00 PM

iPhone review of the day: Shift 2 – Artsy platform puzzling that would make MC Escher proud (Shift 2)
January 31, 2011 at 9:00 PM

Most platform games looks like an explosion at a crayon factory. Most platform games require precision jumping and hair-trigger reflexes. Shift 2 is different. This stylish, black & white game is about jumping around on platforms, yes, but in order to get anywhere, you’re going to have to use your gray matter to think like a puzzle master. And it works wonderfully...

Fed up with your pathetic human DNA? Albert Wesker makes a convincing argument for injecting Uroboros (Resident Evil 5)
January 31, 2011 at 9:00 PM

Imagine if Tricell Pharmaceutical Company made a product that transformed wimpy men into deadly killers who could survive being neck deep in a river of volcanic magma. Imagine that product being called 'Old Uroboros' and being endorsed by Resident Evil's metrosexual bad guy Albert Wesker. Now imagine if the TV commercial for 'Old Uroboros' was like this...

First Neon Genesis Evangelion themed hotel room opening on March 1 (Xbox 360)
January 31, 2011 at 9:00 PM

We know it’s not really game-related, but for some of us here at GamesRadar, our love for gaming goes hand-in-hand with our appreciation of fine anime. So when we found out that Fuji-Q Highland - an amusement park located in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan - announced the first hotel guest room based on Neon Genesis Evangelion, we couldn’t resist sharing…

Akiba’s Trip to feature pantsing battle mechanic (Akiba's Trip)
January 31, 2011 at 9:00 PM

Above: Pantsing vampires. You can execute a ‘Strip Action’ to finish off day walkers with extra exposure to sunlight

I was about seven years old when I was pantsed for the first time. Nothing is more humiliating than facing the world, fully exposed, with your pants hanging around your ankles. I thought I had moved past that tender age where one must be wary of pantsers on the prowl. But it looks like fate is determined to remind me of the shameful act with news that stripping strangers will be part of the battle system in Akiba’s Trip, the latest action/adventure title from Way of the Samurai developer Acquire…

Silver PS3 makes us even more jealous of Japan (PlayStation 3)
January 31, 2011 at 9:00 PM

Sweetness! At least, that's what we would be saying if this "Satin Silver" PS3 was coming anywhere other than Japan. Sadly, instead of releasing the Satin Silver console here, Sony's leaving us with the same old piano black model we've always had. More like Satan, am I right?!

GTA almost never happened because it "crashed all the f*cking time" (Grand Theft Auto)
January 31, 2011 at 9:00 PM

Just ponder for a second, if you will, a world of games without that quaint little series Grand Theft Auto. No slaughtering innocent OAPs in drive-bys. A huge vacuum in that whole ‘beating digital prostitutes with baseball bats’ genre. Worse still, a world without OG Loc. Can you imagine such a dark, open world-free existence? Well, this terrifying alternate reality almost came to pass, during the first GTA’s troubled development…
