Nokia N8 Software update available: Brings Nokia DAB Radio & MobiBox Pro (Visual Voicemail)

Quick heads-up. After 'PR1.1′ update, today Nokia N8 got small software updates “Nokia DAB radio & MobiBox Pro”. Previously Nokia DAB radio update was pushed for only UK, but now it looks like its available for all regions.

Nokia DAB Radio: DAB Stands for Digital Audio Broadcast – DAB digital radio offers a much clearer reception, less interference and better sound quality than traditional analogue radio.

To use this service you will require a accessory called "Nokia Digital Radio Headset", that connects via USB on-the-go to device.

Note :- Your country/region needs to support DAB transmission

MobiBox Pro: Its a Visual Voicemail client, enables users to access their voicemails directly on their Nokia smartphones.

“Mobilbox Pro is a service that enables T-Mobile customers to access their voicemails directly on their phones. Using Communology's Visual Voicemail clients, the user can decide which voicemail he wants to listen to first. With one click, the user can delete, store, or forward voice messages. Incoming voicemails are seamlessly matched with the user's phone book displaying the relevant picture.”

Looks like this Mobilbox Pro update is for specific region, thats why some users are unable to install the update.

What is NFC?

“For those that don't know, NFC (Near Field Communication) is a hot new technology that will make mobile devices that much more powerful and important in our lives. It gives users the ability to interact with other devices that are nearby. Think about buying a soda from a vending machine simply by waving your phone at it, or printing pictures from your mobile by setting it down on top of your printer. At the show here there are many examples of NFC.

What can Qt do with NFC?

Qt and the Qt Mobility APIs make it possible to integrate with stores and more. The upcoming release of Qt Mobility (1.2) features the Connectivity API, which allows NFC enabled phones such as the Nokia C7 to recognize NFC tags.

Digia, one of certified Qt partners has created an app called ShopWizer that demonstrates what Qt can do in the NFC space. Digia used a technical preview version of the Connectivity API from Qt Mobility 1.2 to build the demo. ShopWizer is a smart app that can be used on a NFC enabled devices, like Nokia C7. The demo app shows how NFC can help you while shopping, like bringing up product prices, product reviews / ratings, price comparisons, features list etc .
