Nokia Betalabs : Nokia Reader beta updated, Now available for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic!

Nokia Beta Labs experimental RSS reader app ‘Nokia Reader’ got an update, added support for  Nokia 5800 device.

"This useful application is easy to setup: Just select your favorite feeds from a pre-populated list of the major news sources or add a new feed by typing the website address and Reader will search for the RSS feed."

Layar today launched its Augmented Reality Browser Layar for Symbian devices over Ovi Store.

“Its an augmented reality browser that helps you search and discover information about the world around you by displaying digital information called "layers" into your Symbian smartphone. Owners of S60 and Symbian^3 devices with GPS, front-facing camera, compass and accelerometer can now rediscover the world around them using Layar's.”

Remoter : Now remotely control your PC via Mobile, Using Touchpad Mouse and Virtual Keyboard

‘Remoter’ is remote control utility app for Nokia touch phones, that gives user ability to remotely control their PC via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth using device touch screen as touchpad mouse and virtual keyboard. The app is developed by Zlatko Stapić for S60 v5 and Symbian^3 phones and is available for free over Ovi Store!

“Remoter is mobile device application that gives user ability to remotely control their PC via easy-to-use mouse touchpad and virtual keyboard. Free version supports only wireless comunication. Remoter can be used to control any application including presentation software, video and audio player, etc. RemoterPro with bluetooth support is coming soon. Note: Please have your mobile phone in same subnet with server, and configure your firewall to allow access on TCP port 12345 and UDP port 12346.”

You Need :

  • A Wi-Fi enabled Symbian  Smart-phone
  • Wi-Fi Router
  • A Windows PC connected to Wi-Fi router ( Windows Vista & Windows 7 works fine)

The Setup:

  • First Download the app on your Nokia phone over Ovi Store
  • Now download Server application on your Windows PC
    1. For (32bit windows) can be downloaded from here
    2. For (64bit windows) can be downloaded from here
    3. Required .Net Framework (2.0 or above) can be found here
  • Install the Mobile app and PC Server application respectively
  • Open the Server app on PC
  • Open the app on your mobile, You will see your PC listed with IP address, Now try to connect.

  • If you are running a Firewall, you will get an Alert – Just Allow it (Or manually Configure your firewall to allow access on TCP port 12345 and UDP port 12346)

  • You will get an Incoming Connection Alert from your Mobile Device – Just Allow It!
  • Now you will see a  new device added on your Server App with its IP address.
  • Setup is now successfully completed, Now you are ready to use your Mobile to remote control your PC.

Now you are ready to use your mobile as PC remote. Use this app to do: presentation, Play music, videos, chat and Internet Surfing. For sure there are lot more things you can do with app, well do let us know in your comments.

Nokia 5250 Firmware Updated to v20.0.004 (Official Changelog)

Nokia 5250 firmware updated to v20.0.004. Its previous software version was v 11.0.008.

You can update your Nokia 5250 firmware over OTA (Over-The-Air) or via Nokia's Software Updater application,  Ovi Suite on Windows PC . The Nokia 5250 does have UDP (User Data Preservation), but its always a good idea to backup all your personal data before updating the  firmware.

  • New version of Ovi Store
  • Improved music player
  • Performance and usability improvements

Note: It may take some time before the new firmware is available for your region.
